East Azerbaijan, located in in the northwest of Iran , is the only province in Iran that shares a border with Armenia and also the border with both the main territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is an outsider of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The city of Tabriz, with more than 3,500 years history, is the capital of this Province, with an area of 324 km² and around 2 million people, is the largest northwestern city of Iran and the third largest city after Tehran and Mashhad. In 1500AD and during Safavid Capital, Tabriz was known as the 5th most populous in the world and was also the largest, most important, and most modern city in Iran in the Qajar era. It was the political capital of Iran during the reign of Timurid , Safavid and the second capital of the Qajar.

Climate of East Azerbaijan Province
East Azerbaijan enjoys a wide variety of climates due to its large area. The middle cities of Jolfa have reached the highest temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. Bostan Abad has the lowest temperature recorded in the province and in all cities of Iran with a temperature of -45 ° C.
But in general, the province has cool mountainous climates due to its location between mountains and highlands. The average annual rainfall is 250 to 300 mm.

Saint Stepanos Monastry
is an Armenian monastery located about 15 km northwest of the city of Julfa in the province of East Azarbaijan, northwestern Iran. It is situated in a deep canyon along the Araxes, on the Iranian side of the border between Iran and Nakhchivan. It was originally built in the ninth century, and was rebuilt during the Safavid era, after being damaged through wars and earthquakesIt is part of the Armenian Monastic Ensembles of Iran, which are inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Saint Mary Church of Tabriz
Holy Mother of God Church ,is an Armenian Apostolic church in Tabriz, completed in 1785. It is the largest and oldest Christian church in Tabriz and a notable center for Armenian national and religious ceremonies held by the Armenian community of Tabriz. The oldest gravestone in this church dates back to the 16th century AD.
